Cytisus Scoparius, commonly known as common broom or Scotch broom, is a deciduous shrub native to western and central Europe. The yellow flowers and green branches make this plant a popular ornamental, but it is also considered a weed in some areas due to its invasive nature. There are several synonyms for Cytisus Scoparius, including Sarothamnus scoparius and Genista scoparius. Other common names for this plant include broomtops, Irish broom, and sproom. In traditional medicine, extracts from Cytisus Scoparius have been used to treat heart and kidney diseases, but its effectiveness and safety for these purposes have not yet been scientifically proven.
