Diffuse myelinoclastic sclerosis is a rare autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. It is also known as Schilder's disease or parahippocampal sclerosis. The disorder is characterized by the destruction of the myelin sheath that covers nerve fibers in the brain, resulting in a range of symptoms such as loss of coordination, muscle weakness, cognitive impairment, and vision problems. Other synonyms for diffuse myelinoclastic sclerosis include encephalomyelitis, leukodystrophy, and demyelinating disease. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this condition and management of symptoms is the only treatment option.
