Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and progressive neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system. It is characterized by inflammation, damage, and scarring of the myelin sheath that surrounds and protects the nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. MS can cause a wide range of symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, numbness, tingling, vision problems, muscle spasms, and cognitive impairment. There are several synonyms for multiple sclerosis such as disseminated sclerosis, encephalomyelitis disseminata, and sclerose en plaques. These terms refer to the same disease and are often used interchangeably in medical literature and discussions.
