Emberiza hortulana, commonly known as the ortolan bunting, is a small passerine bird that breeds in much of Europe and Western Asia. The bird's name "Emberiza hortulana" is derived from Latin words meaning "gardener's emberiza". However, it is known by several other names as well, such as the "hortulan bunting", "hortulan bird", "corn bunting", and "little russet bunting". The bird is renowned for its melodious song, which has led to its use in hunting and culinary traditions. Although rare, they can be spotted on the ground in open farmland, usually perched on a fence or wire.
