Experimental Allergic Neuritis (EAN) is an autoimmune disorder that results in inflammation and damage to the peripheral nerves. There are a number of different synonyms for this condition, including Experimental Autoimmune Neuritis, Acute Autoimmune Neuritis, Autoimmune Neuritis and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). Although these terms are similar, they all have nuances that distinguish them from one another. CIDP, for example, is a chronic form of EAN that tends to have a slower onset and milder symptoms, while Acute Autoimmune Neuritis is a more sudden and severe version of the condition. Regardless of the terminology used, all of these conditions are characterized by damage to the myelin sheath surrounding the nerves, which can result in pain, numbness, and weakness in the affected areas of the body.
