The Family Amphiumidae refers to the group of amphibians commonly known as the "congo snake" or "amphiuma." These creatures are native to the southeastern United States and are characterized by their long, slender bodies and small limbs. There are three different species within the Family Amphiumidae, each with slightly different physical characteristics. While there are not many commonly-used synonyms for this family name, some may refer to them more generally as "lungless salamanders" or "eel-like amphibians."
