The Family Dasyatidae, commonly known as Stingrays, belongs to the order Myliobatiformes. This family consists of around 70 species, several of which are found in estuarine and coastal waters around the world. Synonyms for the term "Family Dasyatidae" include Stingarees, Whiptail Stingrays, and Round Stingrays. These aquatic creatures are famous for their flattened, diamond-shaped bodies, and long tails with barbed spines at the base. They have a unique way of feeding by suctioning their prey, which consists of small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Though they are relatively docile, Stingrays are dangerous if accidentally stepped on or disturbed. Therefore, it is always advised to stay a safe distance when observing them in their natural habitat.
