Family Daubentoniidae, commonly known as Aye-ayes, are a unique and fascinating species of lemurs found only in Madagascar. They are nocturnal primates and are characterized by their large eyes, elongated middle fingers, and specialized teeth. There are only two species within this family, Daubentonia madagascariensis and Daubentonia robusta. In some literature, they are also referred to as "finger lemurs" due to their unique finger structure. The Aye-ayes have also been likened to witches, due to their association with superstition in Malagasy culture. Despite their unusual appearance, they play an important role in the ecosystem of Madagascar and are considered an important cultural symbol.
