The term "floral leaf" refers to the leaves that emerge from a flower's stem which are usually smaller and more delicate than the foliage leaves on the same plant. There are several synonyms for this term, including bract, sepal, petal and tepal. A bract is a modified leaf that appears at the base of a flower or a cluster of flowers. Sepals are modified leaves that encase and protect the flower bud before it blooms. Petals are also modified leaves that make up the colorful and often fragrant part of a flower.
