French Livre Parisis, also known as French franc, was the official currency of France from the 17th until the 19th century. It was introduced during the reign of King Louis XIII and its value was initially based on the price of silver. Throughout its existence, French Franc went through a number of changes and even different names, such as French livre, Franc à Pied, and Louis d'Or. Today, the term French Livre Parisis is considered an archaic one, and its modern-day synonyms are the Euro and the French Franc (1960-2002), which altogether replaced the French Livre Parisis.
