Fumariaceae, also known as the fumitory family, is a group of flowering plants that includes over 600 species. Some of the synonyms for Fumariaceae include the bleeding heart family, the poppy family and the dicentra family. These synonyms are often used interchangeably in the scientific community to describe the same plants. The characteristic feature of the Fumariaceae family is the flower structure which consists of two petal-like sepals and four petals arranged in a heart shape.
