Gardner's syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the development of multiple colon polyps. While there are no true synonyms for the term, some medical professionals may refer to this condition as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), given the similarities in presentation. FAP can result in hundreds or thousands of polyps forming in the colon, increasing the risk of developing colon cancer. In addition to colon polyps, Gardner's syndrome may also cause other benign tumors to develop, such as osteomas or epidermoid cysts. While there is no cure for this condition, early detection and treatment can reduce the risk of cancer and improve quality of life.
