The Genus Tupaia is a group of small, tree-dwelling mammals found throughout Southeast Asia. These creatures are also known as treeshrews. There are 19 recognized species of treeshrews in the Genus Tupaia, including the common treeshrew, the striped treeshrew, and the pen-tailed treeshrew. Other synonyms for the Genus Tupaia include the family Tupaiidae, the order Scandentia, and the superorder Euarchontoglires. Treeshrews are known for their unique brain structure and digestive system, which make them useful models for studying human evolution and health. Despite their common name, treeshrews are not actually shrews and are instead more closely related to primates and other mammals.
