Giraffa stillei, also known as the West African giraffe, is a subspecies of giraffe that is found only in the West African countries of Niger, Cameroon, and Chad. Its specific name "stillei" honors Swedish zoologist Lennart Stille, who first described the subspecies in 1913. Some other synonyms for Giraffa stillei include Camelopardalis giraffa, Giraffa camelopardalis peralta, Giraffa peralta, and Giraffa senegalensis peralta. Unfortunately, this subspecies is currently listed as critically endangered, with only a few hundred individuals remaining in the wild. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this unique and beautiful animal from extinction.
