Giraffatitan is a long-extinct dinosaur. It was first discovered in Tanzania in the early 20th century and was initially called Brachiosaurus. However, further studies proved it to be a distinct species, and it was renamed Giraffatitan. The name is a combination of the words "giraffe" because of its long neck and "Titan" in reference to its massive size.
There are several synonyms for the word Giraffatitan, including Brachiosaurus brancai, Brachiosaurus altithorax, and Giraffesaurus brancai. These names refer to the same dinosaur species, but they were used at different times and by different researchers. Despite the different names, all refer to one of the largest animals to ever walk the earth. Giraffatitan was an herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the late Jurassic period.
