Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) is a condition characterized by the breakdown of red blood cells and kidney failure. There are several synonyms for HUS that are commonly used in the medical field. These include:
1. Hemolytic-uremic renal syndrome (HURS)
2. Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA)
3. Hemolytic uremic syndrome/thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (HUS/TTP)
4. Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (MAHA)
5. Hemolytic uremic syndrome-associated diarrhea (HUS-D)
6. Shiga-toxin associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (ST-HUS)
