The House of Hanover, also known as the House of Brunswick-Lüneburg, was a German dynasty that ruled Great Britain from 1714 to 1837. The name Hanover has become synonymous with this period of British history. Other synonyms for the House of Hanover include the Brunswick dynasty, the House of Hanoverian, or simply Hanoverians. The senior branch of the House of Hanover is sometimes referred to as the House of Brunswick, while the younger branch (which includes Queen Victoria) is known as the House of Hanover-Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
