The House of Lords is the upper house of the British Parliament, experts in their fields but not elected. Also known as the House of Peers, it has traditionally been the chamber of Parliament representing the peerage, titles conferred by the Crown. The chamber is called the red bench, as the peers sit on red benches. It's also known as the House of Bacchanalian Revellers, a jocular name for the peers who were often out of touch with the common people. Another nickname is the House of Inertia, due to its reputation for being slow to change. Some also call it the Upper House or the House of Review.
