The island fox, also known as Urocyon littoralis, is a small canid native to six of the eight Channel Islands of California. In addition to its scientific name and common name, this fox also goes by several synonyms. These include the Channel Islands fox, short-tailed fox, insular fox, and coast fox. The island fox is an important species in the island ecosystem and has adapted to the unique challenges of island life.
