Juvenile Absence Epilepsy (JAE) is a common form of epilepsy that primarily affects children and teenagers. However, this condition can also be referred to by various synonyms or alternative terms. One such term is "childhood absence epilepsy", denoting the onset of absence seizures during childhood. Another synonym is "pyknolepsy", which derives its name from the Greek words "pyknon" for dense and "lepsis" for attack. In addition, JAE can be referred to as "petit mal epilepsy", highlighting the typical absence seizures experienced by individuals with this condition. Although Juvenile Absence Epilepsy encompasses several synonyms, the underlying nature of this neurological disorder remains the same.
