Kaposi's sarcoma is a type of cancer that affects the skin, mouth, lymph nodes, and internal organs. This cancer is caused by a virus called human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) and is commonly found in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those affected by HIV/AIDS. In addition to "Kaposi's sarcoma," this cancer may also be referred to as "KS," "AIDS-related KS," "epidemic KS," or "iatrogenic KS," depending on the cause and context in which it is being discussed. While there is currently no cure for Kaposi's sarcoma, treatment options such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be effective at managing the symptoms and extending a patient's lifespan.
