The lacrimal caruncle is a small fleshy structure found in the medial corner of the eye. Although it might not be a commonly spoken of feature, it is important for the health of our eyes. However, there are a few different terms that can be used in place of lacrimal caruncle, including caruncula lacrimalis or the plica lacrimalis. Other terms that may be used to describe this structure include conjunctival caruncle, or pes anserinus conjunctivae. In any case, it is important that we all understand these different names and how they are used so we can better communicate about our eyes and their health.
