The Lautaro Faction of the United Popular Action Movement, often shortened to just "Lautaro," was a Chilean left-wing militant group active in the 1980s. Synonyms for this group could include "Lautaro Army," "Lautaro Guerrillas," or simply "United Popular Action Movement." The group was named after the indigenous Mapuche warrior Lautaro, who fought against Spanish colonialism in the 16th century. Lautaro was influential in the Chilean resistance movement against the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. The group's stated goals included the overthrow of Pinochet's regime and the establishment of a socialist government in Chile. Though they were eventually disbanded, their legacy lives on in the struggle for social justice in Chile.
