Liothyronine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3), which is often used in the treatment of hypothyroidism. However, there are several other synonyms for liothyronine that are commonly used in medical literature and drug references. These include T3 thyroid hormone, cytomel, triostat, and tiromel. Despite their different names, these medications all have the same intended effect of increasing the levels of thyroid hormone in the body.
