Lomotil is a medication used to treat diarrhea by slowing down the movement of the intestine. It contains two active ingredients; diphenoxylate, and atropine, which work together to control diarrhea. There are several synonyms for Lomotil, including co-phenotrope, di-phen, and diphenoxylate with atropine. Other related drugs include Imodium (loperamide), Pepto-Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate), and Kaopectate (kaolin and pectin), which are also used to manage diarrhea. While Lomotil is an effective drug for the short-term treatment of diarrhea, it should only be used under the direction of a healthcare professional. Overusing or abusing Lomotil may lead to addiction, and there may be other underlying medical conditions that need to be addressed.
