Lophius Americanus is a species of fish commonly called the anglerfish or goosefish. Some of the synonyms for this species include Lophius pavo, Lophius cyclurus, and Lophius piscatorius Americanus. The anglerfish is known for its unique physical features, such as its fleshy lure on its head which it uses to attract prey. It is found in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Canada to Argentina. The fish can grow up to 5 feet in length and weigh up to 50 pounds. Despite its intimidating appearance, anglerfish are commonly eaten by humans and are considered a delicacy in some regions.
