The Mesozoic Era is a geologic time period that spanned between 252 and 66 million years ago, and is often referred to as the "Age of Reptiles" or the "Dinosaur Age". Other synonyms for the Mesozoic Era include the "Middle Life Era" or "Secondary Era", as it was preceded by the Paleozoic Era (the "Early Life Era") and followed by the Cenozoic Era (the "New Life Era"). It is also sometimes referred to as the "Age of Cycads" or the "Triassic-Jurassic-Cretaceous Periods", which are the three main subdivisions of the Mesozoic Era. The Mesozoic was a major period of biological evolution, as many new species of plants and animals emerged and diversified.
