Minimal mesangial glomerulonephritis is a rare renal disorder. It is sometimes abbreviated as MMG. MMG is a form of nephritis that is characterized by minimal deposits of immunoglobulin and complement in the mesangial region of the kidney. The deposits are not enough to cause significant damage, but they do cause inflammation in the area, which can lead to proteinuria and hematuria. Synonyms for the term MMG include idiopathic mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis, mesangial nephritis, and mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis. Each of these terms describes a similar condition and can be used interchangeably. MMG is usually managed with medications that control inflammation in the kidneys and reduce proteinuria.
