Mononucleosis, also known as glandular fever or the kissing disease, is a viral infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. While the term mononucleosis is most commonly used to refer to this infection, there are a few other synonyms that are worth knowing. Some of the other terms used to describe this illness include infectious mononucleosis, mono, kissing disease, and Epstein-Barr virus infection. Symptoms of mononucleosis include fatigue, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fever, and body aches. While the illness can be uncomfortable, most people recover completely within a few weeks with rest and supportive care.
