It is situated on the border between the Mexican states of Veracruz and Puebla and has several synonyms in different languages. In Spanish, it is commonly called Pico de Orizaba, which translates to "Orizaba Peak." In Nahuatl, an indigenous language of Mexico, it is known as Citlaltepetl, meaning "Star Mountain." The mountain is also referred to as "Volcán de Orizaba" or "Orizaba Volcano" due to its classification as a stratovolcano.
