Munchausen's Syndrome, also known as Factitious Disorder, is a mental health condition in which an individual fakes or exaggerates their symptoms or illnesses for attention or sympathy. Synonyms for this disorder include Factitious Disorder, Factitious Disorder Imposed on Self (FDIS), and Hospital Addiction Syndrome. Some may also refer to it as Pathological Lying, Pseudologia Fantastica, or Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII). Regardless of the name, individuals with this disorder often go to great lengths to maintain their facade, including harming themselves or intentionally choosing to receive unnecessary medical treatments. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in helping those with Factitious Disorder move towards recovery and a healthy, fulfilling life.
