Schizophrenic psychosis, also referred to as simply schizophrenia, is a condition that affects an individual's thought process, mood, and behavior. It is generally considered a severe mental disorder that requires treatment. Some synonyms for schizophrenia include schizoaffective disorder, paranoid schizophrenia, and delusional disorder. Schizoaffective disorder is characterized by a combination of schizophrenia symptoms and mood disorders like depression. Paranoid schizophrenia is a subtype of schizophrenia characterized by paranoia and delusions. Delusional disorder is a condition in which an individual has persistent false beliefs despite evidence to the contrary. Though these conditions have different symptoms and presentations, they all fall under the umbrella of schizophrenia.
