Muscovitic desman, also known as the Russian desman, is a semi-aquatic insectivore. This species of desman is indigenous to Russia, specifically in the river basins of Moscow, Oka, Volga, and Kama. It is also called the muskrat mole or muskrat water shrew. Other synonyms for muscovitic desman include Eurasian desman, water mole, and Moscow muskrat. Although these names share some similarities, they all refer to the same unique animal that resides in freshwater river habitats. The muscovitic desman is known for its long snout, waterproof fur, and the ability to swim and dive underwater for extended periods.
