Myenteric Plexus is a network of nerve fibers found in the muscular layer of the gastrointestinal tract. It controls some of the major functions of the digestive system, such as movement of food through the intestines, secretion of digestive enzymes and the constriction of blood vessels. Although this term is widely accepted as the standard name, there are other synonyms for "Myenteric Plexus" used in the field of anatomy and physiology, such as Auerbach's plexus, the plexus of Auerbach or the external nerve plexus. These different terms may be used interchangeably, but they all refer to the same neural network located within the gastrointestinal wall.
