Myrciaria is a genus of fruit-bearing trees and shrubs commonly found in Central and South America. There are several synonyms for this name that refer to different species within the genus. Some of these include Plinia, Calyptranthes, Marlieria, Eugenia, and Psidium. Plinia is often used to describe several species of Myrciaria, including Plinia cauliflora, also known as jabuticaba. Calyptranthes is used to refer to species of Myrciaria with aromatic leaves and small white flowers. Marlieria is a synonym for Myrciaria ugni, also known as Chilean guava. Eugenia is a large genus of flowering plants, many of which were formerly classified as Myrciaria. Finally, Psidium is a genus of fruit trees closely related to Myrciaria, including guavas.
