Commonly known as tamarisks or saltcedars, they are mostly found in the Northern Hemisphere in arid and salty habitats like riverbanks, wet meadows, deserts, and areas with saline soils. Some of the synonyms for Myricaria include Tamarix, Halimodendron, and Reaumuria. Tamarix is probably the most familiar one, as it is a genus of trees and shrubs from the same family and commonly known as tamarisks. Halimodendron is a small shrub similar to Myricaria, and they can be very difficult to tell apart.
