Natrix sipedon, commonly known as the northern water snake, is a non-venomous snake species found in North America. Synonyms for Natrix sipedon include Nerodia sipedon, Coluber sipedon, Tropidonotus sipedon and Regina sipedon. These synonyms have been used in different publications, but the scientific name remains Natrix sipedon. These snakes are typically found near water sources such as streams, swamps, and lakes and feed on a variety of aquatic prey such as fish, frogs, and crayfish.
