The term "Near East" refers to the region comprising several countries that are geographically located between the eastern Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf. These countries include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The term Near East has been used interchangeably with Middle East, which further includes North Africa and sometimes parts of Asia.
