Ormond Disease, commonly known as retroperitoneal fibrosis, is a rare condition characterized by the excessive growth of fibrous tissue in the retroperitoneal space, which is the area behind the abdominal cavity. Although the term "Ormond Disease" is widely used, it is important to note that there are several synonyms for this condition. These include idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis, chronic periaortitis, abdominal fibromatosis, and inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor. Each of these synonyms refers to the same underlying condition, in which fibrous tissue growth can lead to the compression and obstruction of surrounding structures, potentially causing severe complications if left untreated. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial to prevent further damage and improve patient outcomes.
