Oviraptor, a name derived from the Greek words "ovi" (egg) and "raptor" (thief), refers to a group of theropod dinosaurs who are believed to have preyed on eggs. While the term "oviraptor" is well-known among paleontologists, there are other synonyms for this group, such as Ingenia, Khaan, and Citipati. Ingenia, meaning "cleverness" in Latin, is a genus of oviraptorosaurs that existed during the Early Cretaceous period. Khaan, on the other hand, is a genus that lived in the same period and has a Mongolian origin, meaning "ruler" or "king." Citipati, meaning "funeral pyre Lord" in Sanskrit, was a species of oviraptorosaur that was discovered in Mongolia in the 1990s.
