"Parkia" is a genus of plants in the pea family, Fabaceae. The most commonly known species of Parkia is Parkia speciosa, otherwise known as "stink bean" due to its pungent odor. Other synonyms for Parkia speciosa include bitter bean, twisted cluster bean, and sataw. In Southeast Asia, Parkia speciosa is a popular ingredient in traditional cuisine, particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. In addition to its culinary uses, Parkia species are also used in traditional medicine for their various health benefits. The genus Parkia includes around 50 species, many of which are found in tropical Africa.
