Peneidae is a family of marine crustaceans, commonly referred to as penaeid shrimp. However, there are several synonyms for this term such as prawn, shrimp, langoustine, crayfish, crawfish, and lobster. Prawns are larger than shrimp and have three pairs of claws, whereas, shrimp usually have five pairs of legs. Langoustines are similar in appearance to prawns but smaller in size.
