Peuchen is a term used in Chile and Argentina to define a type of folklore creature that has been described as a flying snake that can transform into a human being. Although the word peuchen is commonly used, there are several synonyms that also refer to this creature. In Chile, it is known as the Chonchon or El Viento Negro, while in Argentina it is called the yacumama. The Chonchon is known for having the ability to separate its head and fly at night, while the Yacumama is often associated with bodies of water and is said to be incredibly fast and dangerous. Regardless of the name, all synonyms for peuchen elicit feelings of fear and respect in those who believe in their existence.
