Phthorimaea Operculella, commonly known as the potato tuber moth, is a destructive pest that poses a significant threat to potato crops worldwide. There are several synonyms used to refer to this pest, including the tobacco splitworm, the tomato tuberworm, the South American tomato pinworm, and the Andean potato tuber moth. Despite the different names, all of these refer to the same pest. The Phthorimaea Operculella moth lays its eggs on the lower leaves of potato plants, and larvae hatch and feed on the tubers, causing significant damage to the plant. Farmers and researchers are continuously researching and implementing various management strategies to control the spread of this pest.
