Pinworm, also known as threadworm, is a parasitic worm that commonly infects human intestines. The condition is characterized by intense itching around the anus, especially at night. The medical term for pinworm infestation is enterobiasis. Some other synonyms for pinworm include seatworm, oxyuriasis, and nematode. Pinworms are very contagious and can easily spread from one person to another through contaminated food, water, or surfaces. Treatment for pinworms usually involves taking medication to kill the parasites and practicing good hygiene to prevent re-infection. While pinworm infections are not usually life-threatening, they can cause discomfort and inconvenience for those affected.
