Pitch-outs are a common term used in baseball to signify a type of pitch delivery by the pitcher. It is a type of pitch that is thrown to the outside of the strike zone, purposely thrown wide of the plate with the intention of drawing a hitter to swing and miss. There are several synonyms for the term pitch-outs, some of which include "outside pitches," "wide balls," "throwing out of the zone," or simply "going outside." Regardless of the terminology used, the idea remains the same as to make the hitter chase the pitch and miss, allowing the pitcher to gain an advantage.
