Pterosauria is a term used to describe a group of extinct flying reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic era. However, there are several synonyms for this scientific name, such as pterosaurs, pterodactyls, and pteranodons. These names are often used interchangeably and refer to different species of this extinct group. Pterosaurs were known for their incredible wingspans, some reaching up to 33 feet, and their ability to fly, glide, and possibly even walk on their wings. Despite their impressive size, pterosaurs were not dinosaurs, but rather a separate group of reptiles. Today, fossils of these ancient creatures continue to offer insight into the evolution of flight and the history of life on Earth.
