Putnisite is a rare mineral discovered in Western Australia in 2006. It is a complex mineral composed of calcium, copper, aluminium, silicon, oxygen, and hydrogen. Being a newly discovered mineral, it currently has no other synonyms. However, it has been named after two mineralogists, Dr. Andrew and Christine Putnis, who contributed significantly to the field of mineralogy. The mineral's discovery was made possible thanks to advancements in technology, specifically scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. Putnisite stands out among other minerals because of its unique crystal structure and combination of elements. Its discovery is a reminder that there is still much to explore and discover in the world of minerals.
