Synonyms for the Flathead Catfish include muddy cat, yellow catfish, shovelhead catfish, and Opelousas catfish among others. They are typically found in slow-moving rivers, lakes, and reservoirs in the midwestern and southeastern parts of the United States. Conservation efforts are underway to prevent overfishing and preserve their populations.
