RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) is a term commonly used in molecular biology to describe a group of protein complexes. These complexes are involved in gene expression regulation, specifically in a process known as RNA interference (RNAi). As a result, the term RISC is widely used in scientific literature. However, there are other synonymous terms that may be used interchangeably with RISC, such as small RNA effector complex (SREC), small RNA silencing complex, and small interfering RNA complex. These terms refer to the same type of protein complexes involved in RNAi and gene regulation, but provide alternative ways to describe this important process.
